Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks
The ASAA State High School Championships will be held on the Jim Whisenhant Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 24-26, 2005, beginning at 1:00pm on Thursday and Friday and 11:00am Saturday. The Thursday events will be mass-start events in free technique, Friday's events will be interval start classic technique, and Saturday will have mixed technique relays.
The Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks recommends Wedgewood Resort for accommodations. Wedgewood Resort has always done a great job of accommodating cross country skiers. They provide dedicated, heated waxing areas for guests, which are invaluable. If you mention that you are coming to Fairbanks for the ASAA Championships you will receive a specially-discounted rate of $70 per night per one bedroom unit for the first two guests, with an additional $10/person for additional guests (beginning with the third guest). Special rates on two-bedroom units are $100 per night for the first two guests, with an additional $10/person for additional guests (beginning with the third guest). One-bedroom units can comfortably accommodate four people and two-bedroom units can comfortably accommodate six people. A local rooms tax of 8% is charged on all room rates. Wedgewood Resort is conveniently located less than 10 minutes drive from the Birch Hill Recreation Area.
The Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center (the new building) will be TBA
Waxing areas for each team will be assigned by the organizers. Waxing spaces include the "Cave" under the Assembly Room of the Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center, the Wax Room on the ground floor of the Team Pod of the Birch Hill Cross Country Ski Center, the Old Warming Hut, and the Equipment Shed. Please use only your assigned waxing space.
The gate at the entrance to the access road closes at approximately 10:00PM each evening, and opens at about 6:00AM.
The Technical Delegate for this event is TBA, as is the Assistant Technical Delegate. John Estle is the Chief of Competition, and Greg Whisenhant is the Assistant Chief of Competition.

Frequently Birch Hill is 10-15 Fahrenheit degrees warmer than the temperatures at the airport, and inversions of 25-30 Fahrenheit degrees are not unheard of. The conditions at the airport MAY OR MAY NOT resemble the conditions at Birch Hill.
