The first event in the 13th Annual Flint Hills Resources Town Race Series, the Fairbanks Youth Sports Season Opener, will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 on the Jim Whisenhant Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks.  Start time is 11:00 AM.

The Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks recommends Wedgewood Resort for accommodations.  Wedgewood Resort has always done a great job of accommodating cross country skiers.  They provide dedicated, heated waxing areas for guests, which are invaluable.  One-bedroom units can comfortably accommodate four people and two-bedroom units can comfortably accommodate six people.  Ask for rate NRL2009.  One-bedroom units will be $70 for the first two occupants, and $5 for each additional occupant.  Two-bedroom units will be $95 for the first two occupants, and $5 for each additional occupant.  A local rooms tax of 8% is charged on all room rates.  Wedgewood Resort is conveniently located less than 10 minutes drive from the Birch Hill Recreation Area.

All events will be mass-start free technique.  Grades K-1-2 go 0.5km, Grades 3-4 go 1.0km, Grades 5-6 go 1.5km, Grades 7-8 go 2.0km, HS and Adult Women go 5km, and HS and Adult Men go 7.5km, in that order.  The grade K-1-2 skiers start at 11:00AM.
